Modern
kimono for men are generally more conservative when it comes
to color and pattern. A man wears kimono of blue, black,
brown, grey, or white. Bright, garish colors are for the
young. Another difference in the kimono worn by men and
women is in the sleeve. The lower portion on a sleeve (where
the sleeve connects with the body of the garment), is called
the tamoto. On a woman's kimono the tamoto is left
open, on a man's kimono the tamoto is sewn closed.
