In
Japan magazines will publish weekly, biweekly, and
monthly the stories of mangaka. Those stories that
prove to be popular are then compiled as "tankoubon"
(meaning a "separate volume"). Tankoubon
contain a number of the serialized magazine releases
and number some two hundred black and white pages.
Those
quality titles that become renowned as manga are
most often recreated as anime. Westerners are becoming
familiar with Japanese animation but are usually
unaware that it all starts with manga.
