There
are important stylistic differences between manga
and the comic books of the West. Mangaka will often
employ several pages worth of elaborate drawings
to express what Western comic artists would illustrate
on a single page. This has lead to an enormously
complex visual language.
Manga
artists usually ignore neat, uniform panels in favor
of creating exciting visual narratives that divide
up the space of a page in inventive ways. Often
times a single central image of action and text
will overlap an entire page of diversely shaped
panels!
