Of course it's impossible to present a four volume manga on a few web pages. We are presenting only a select handful of profound images in the hope that you are moved to aquire the original works.

Hadashi no Gen is a masterpiece of storytelling and heartfelt anti-war sentiment. It is a classic work that everyone should have in their collection. Most people in the Western hemisphere think of comics as being for children, or those with arrested development. On the other hand, in Japan they are read by nearly everyone.

When informed of this fondness the Japanese have for manga, Westerners fall prey to yet another fallacy, that manga and anime are all about giant robots or degenerate sexual fantasies.

This exhibition of drawings taking from Barefoot Gen proves just exactly how serious manga can be.

Keiji Nakazawa hopes that Barefoot Gen will serve as one more reminder of the cruelty and suffering war brings to
innocent people.

His unique artistic creation documenting an especially horrible source of that suffering.... the Atomic Bomb, should forever remain burned into our collective consciousness.
