Watase Yu's fantasy series, Fushigi Yuugi, is
an eternal hit with anime fans, and this man is dressed as
Tasuki, a character from that series. Tasuki is a bad
tempered fellow whose main weapon is a magical metal fan.
In Watase's series that fan projects fire as Tasuki shouts,
"Rekka Shien!" But in Japan's ancient past, Samurai
actually fought with battle fans made of iron!
This
fellow was part of a troupe of a dozen or so Japanese cosplayers
who came all the way to L.A. for the convention. Most of the
troupe were dressed as characters from the Samurai adventure
series, Rurouni Kenshin.
